There are so many different types of breathwork out there and they all havevery different purposes. The Somatic Breathwork Journey is designed to facilitate the release of suppressed stress in the body through expression. Expression can be somewhat uncomfortable at the time, but when we can clear out that suppressed stress we remove blockages we hold inside the body and then we can become clear. The first half of the journey is intense and the second half will be more gentle. The second half is designed to help cultivate mental clarity and access elevated emotions. This process may be physical, mental, emotional and spiritual and each time the process can be different. There is no right way or wrong way to experience this and I encourage you to keep an open mind and lean into the experience.
Breath Technique:
- First Half – Inhaling in through the mouth all the way down to
the belly, filling up the chest and exhaling through the mouth.
Circular, connected breathing which stimulates the sympathetic
nervous system.
- Second Half – Switch to breathing in and out through the nose,
focusing on elongating the exhales to activate the parasympathetic
nervous system.
- Breath Holds – During the first half we will have 3 breath holds
on the inhale between the clearing rounds where we have the chance
to connect with ourselves. During the second half between the
repatterning rounds we will have 2 breath holds on the exhale. This
is a completely guided process that uses music to enhance the
experience.
What to expect/Expressions:
There may be a variety of expressions that come up during the
clearing rounds, you may need to physically move your body, maybe
use your sound or even perhaps emotional expressions. We just ask
that you stay
on your own mat during the experience. At times if you feel intense
cramping or your hands may rise and create a claw type shape, if it
ever becomes too much you can feel free to slow the breath down or
go back to nasal breathing. You are in control of your own
experience.
Intention:
You will be invited to focus on a one word intention for the
session….something you want to receive throughout the session or
invite in.
What to Bring:
Blanket
Yoga mat
Water bottle
Wear comfortable clothing
Time frame:
The length of the session is approximately 60 minutes, but there
will be some time after the session for questions and shares if you
feel called to do so.
