  • Learn how to use somatic yoga to fully embody the teachings of yoga

  • Learn practices to regulate your nervous system so that the peace you experience during your yoga practice extends out into your daily life

  • Learn anatomy and kinesiology experientially

  • Gain the skills to help your students connect with their bodies and experience yoga at a deeper level

  • Fall in love with the experience of being alive in this human body

This training is suitable for yoga teachers of all levels of experience.

Somatic yoga, a unique style of yoga, delves into the profound connection between the mind and body. Unlike other forms of yoga that prioritize external alignment and poses, somatic yoga emphasizes cultivating awareness of the internal sensations within the body. Practitioners are encouraged to pay close attention to the subtle shifts and nuances in their physical experience as they move through various poses.

The practice emphasizes listening to the body's signals and responding with gentle, intentional movements. This approach aims to facilitate a deeper understanding of one's physical and emotional state, encouraging self-compassion and acceptance.

The benefits of somatic yoga are multifaceted. By attuning to the body's sensations, practitioners can enhance their body awareness and proprioception, leading to improved balance, coordination, and overall ease of movement. Additionally, the mindful and introspective nature of somatic yoga can contribute to stress reduction, relaxation, and a sense of inner peace.

Furthermore, somatic yoga has shown promise in alleviating chronic pain and promoting healing from injuries. By bringing awareness to areas of discomfort or tension, individuals can gain insights into the root causes of their pain and work towards gentle, sustainable solutions. Somatic yoga also encourages a non-judgmental approach to pain, fostering acceptance and empowering practitioners to manage their symptoms more effectively.

Somatic yoga offers a transformative journey of self-discovery, encouraging practitioners to connect with their bodies, minds, and emotions in a profound and meaningful way. It provides tools for personal growth, emotional regulation, and holistic well-being, making it an accessible and valuable practice for individuals seeking to enhance their overall quality of life.

Somatic Yoga for a Healthy Back & Core
Mar 22, 2025 - Mar 22, 2025

Taught by Freia Ramsey, Yoga Therapist, ERYT500

(A certification is available if taking all 10 modules @ $500 for the series)

This class blends the ancient wisdom of yoga with modern somatic principles to explore the profound connection between mind, body, and spine, learning how to release tension, unwind chronic holding patterns, and restore a sense of ease and fluidity to your movements.

We will cover the basic anatomy of the spine and the deep core and deep back muscles that support and mobilize it. We will address the common causes of chronic tension and pain. You will learn to identify and change postural misalignments, and dysfunctional movement patterns and release chronic muscular and fascial tension. Through this process, you will cultivate a deeper understanding of your body's needs and gain tools for self-care and healing.

Somatic Yoga is a slow, dynamic practice that integrates movement and breath to re-establish the brain-to-muscle connection in the Somatic Nervous System. It helps reverse ‘Sensory Motor Amnesia’ in the brain; both waking up and relaxing the muscles, fascia, sensory and motor nerves and down-regulating the entire nervous system. This decreases pain, increases range of motion, lubricates joints, improves posture, and allows the nervous system to regulate the other systems of the body.

In addition to somatic movements, we will increase our mind-body awareness through Yoga Tune-Up Self Myofascial Release, and a Yoga Nidra guided meditation. The invitation is to come and have a conversation with your body, giving it the time, space, and loving awareness it needs to reveal your inherent wisdom and innate wholeness.

Somatic Yoga for a Regulated Nervous System
Mar 23, 2025 - Mar 23, 2025

Taught by Freia Ramsey, Yoga Therapist, ERYT500

Widen your Window of Tolerance, not just to Survive, but to Thrive

Somatic Yoga is a deeply loving and nourishing practice. The word soma refers to your felt experience of being in your body, of being embodied. This decreases pain, increases range of motion, lubricates joints, improves posture, and allows the nervous system to do its job of regulating the other systems of the body.

  • Enhance your 6th sense, interoception, your awareness, and understanding of what you are perceiving in your body and nervous system.
  • Learn the science of Polyvagal Theory by experiencing it in your muscles, fascia, and nervous system.
  • Learn trauma patterns in the body, where they are stored or stuck, their connection to the nervous system, and how to release them
  • Understand the relationship between the quadratus lumborum, the iliopsoas, the latissimus dorsi, the diaphragm, and the nervous system, and how trauma and daily stress are held in the fascial lines that connect these muscles.
  • Learn to deeply listen to your soma as it directs you towards where the unwinding or releasing wants to occur.
  • Experience a full Yoga Nidra, Yogic Sleep meditation practice (Non-Sleep Deep Rest by Huberman Lab), bringing you into an Alpha, possibly theta brainwave state to deeply rest, nourish, and heal your body and mind.

Somatic Yoga for Upper Back, Neck & Shoulders
Apr 13, 2025 - Apr 13, 2025

Taught by Freia Ramsey, Yoga Therapist, ERYT500

Relieve Tension and Restore Balance

The goal of this workshop is to give you the tools to facilitate freedom of movement and a sense of ease within your body and mind. We will use yoga practices such as breath-work, movement exercises, myofascial self-massage, and progressive muscle relaxation to release chronic pain and tension in the upper back, neck, shoulders, and nervous system.

We will cover the basic anatomy of the spine, upper back, neck, and shoulders, and their relationship with each other, so that you can understand and address the common causes of chronic tension and pain. You will learn to identify and change postural misalignments, dysfunctional movement patterns and release chronic muscular and fascial tension. You will learn proper postural alignment, how to stabilize the shoulder girdle, and increase range of motion in neck and shoulders.
