Beginner 4 level description:
This is the perfect course for individuals who have either completed our German Beginner 3 course or have some minimal experience with the German language. We'll help you build upon your existing knowledge and skills to further develop your German proficiency.
Here is a summary of what students will learn by the end of the Beginner 4 level:
COMMUNICATION: Talk about personal health and how you are feeling, leave messages on voicemail, report being sick by phone or email, write a formal email, express opinions, give and understand information at a doctor’s office, understand key information on medication instructions, schedule appointments, respond to invitations, give reasons or explanations, organize work schedule changes, participate in small talk conversations, read a menu, order and pay in a restaurant, and suggest switching from formal to informal address (du).
VOCABULARY & GRAMMAR: Adjectives related to feelings and health, parts of the body and common illnesses, ordinal numbers (first, second, etc.), months and dates, foods and beverages, expressions of degree (sehr, ziemlich, extrem), time expressions (vor, nach, zwischen), sequencing words (zuerst, dann, danach), modal verb dürfen to express permission or prohibition, personal pronouns in the accusative, and indefinite pronouns such as alles, nichts, and viel.

This course is ideal for individuals who have never studied German before or those who wish to start from scratch. Throughout this level, you will acquire fundamental language skills and knowledge.
Here is a summary of what students will learn by the end of the Beginner 1 level:
COMMUNICATION: Greet and say goodbye, introduce yourself and others, provide personal information, distinguish between the informal du and formal Sie, spell words, count to 100, talk about how you are feeling, introduce someone formally, describe your job and workplace, understand a work schedule, talk about daily routines, and identify or explain a problem.
VOCABULARY: Names of persons, countries and continents, numbers from 1–100, the alphabet, basic nouns with definite articles, professions, workplaces and activities, days of the week, time expressions related to parts of the day, the verb haben, present tense verb conjugations, definite and indefinite articles, and forming W-questions, yes/no questions, and simple statements.
Next level: German Beginner 2 or greater.

COMMUNICATION: Express wishes and preferences, talk about money, costs, and personal expenses, discuss professions and salaries, understand information in job advertisements, ask for product information, participate in shopping and service conversations, express yourself politely in stores, plan a vacation, organize a trip, understand train schedules and important information at a train station, explain reasons for decisions, talk about the weather, describe travel experiences, and write a postcard while traveling.
VOCABULARY & GRAMMAR: Department store and shopping vocabulary, professions and salary-related terms, travel and vacation activities, geographical names, separable and non-separable verbs, verbs with dative such as helfen and gefallen, verbs that take both dative and accusative (geben, zeigen, empfehlen, schenken), personal pronouns in the dative, question words such as welcher, welches, welche, demonstrative articles (der, das, die), temporal expressions in the accusative, prepositions with dative or accusative (in, an, auf), weil clauses for giving reasons, modal verbs in the past tense, and impersonal expressions with es.
