Traditionally, 108 Sun Salutations are practiced four times each year — on the summer and winter solstices and the spring and fall equinoxes. But why 108?
In Buddhism, there are said to be 108 delusions of the mind to overcome on the path to enlightenment. In Hinduism, a mala contains 108 prayer beads, used to aid in meditation and reflection. In Eastern medicine, 108 energy points are said to form the heart chakra — the energetic center of love and compassion. Even the relationship between the Earth, the Sun, and the Moon reflects this sacred number, symbolizing balance and connection.
Here at Inspiring Actions, we honor this ancient tradition as a way to mark the turning of the seasons — moving with intention, breath, and community as we welcome the return of the light.
