Hoa Newens is Chief Instructor of Aikido Institute Davis and the Technical Director of Takemusu Aikido Association. He has trained and taught Aikido since 1967 and is ranked black belt 7th degree by World Headquarters. He was appointed Shihan (master instructor) in January 2020 by the Doshu. Throughout the years, he studied with Sensei Dang Thong Phong, 6th dan, Seiichi Sugano, 8th dan, and the late Morihiro Saito, 9th dan. Newens Sensei is the former head of Aikido Institute Oakland. In addition to directing Aikido Institute Davis, he currently serves on the Rank Committee of Takemusu Aikido Association a non-profit corporation dedicated to promoting Aikido. He has also trained in Wu Tai Chi and Chi Kung since 1987. Newens Sensei has published two series of Aikido DVDs entitled Aikido Curriculum and Aikido Essence, as well Taichi DVDs, and three books on Aikido that reflect his five decades of experience.

Mark Larson Shihan (Takuto) began practicing Aikido in 1992, after years of competitive athletics including ice hockey, Wing Chun kung fu and Goju-ryu karate. Over a period of ten years, he studied numerous times as uchideshi (dojo live-in student,) and lived at the Founder’s Dojo for over four years of residential training under Morihiro Saito Shihan.
He is the founder and chief instructor of Minnesota Aiki Shuren Dojo, Nowthen, MN, and technical advisor for a number of Aikido Dojos in the USA and Japan as well as Canada, Denmark, and Sweden.
Larson Shihan currently holds a 6th degree black belt in Aikido (rokudan) from the World Aikido Federation (Aikikai) Headquarters, Tokyo, Japan, led by the current Aikido Doshu Sensei, Moriteru Ueshiba (1951- ), presented to Mark L. Larson on January 13, 2013, at the Hombu Dojo Kagami-biraki ceremony and celebration in Tokyo, Japan.
