Description
Mexican Rebozo
Rebozo is a Spanish word that means “shawl,” and represents the traditional scarf worn on the head and shoulders of women in Mexico.
The Mexican women were resourceful when discovering the rebozo to be a useful item in labour.
Mexican midwives traditionally use the rebozo to aid pregnancy and labour—and as a child carrier.
In pregnancy it can assist with:
- Bringing balance into the Broad ligament attaching from the one side of the sacrum, wrapping around the majority of the uterus and attaching to the sacrum on the other side.
- Help rotate bub during pregnancy or labour
- Relive the mother of back pain in pregnancy and labour
- Necessary for the Body Balance routine with Appetence Families
- Relieves Fascia surrounding the uterus and pelvis
- Releases the pelvic floor
- Releases muscles in the bottom which can become tight in labour- If these (along with the Pelvic Floor) remain tight and tense, it prevents labour from progressing.
- Great for the birth partner to use in pregnancy and birth- helps them have a job and feel like they can help you.
- Is easy for the birth partner to learn to use- We teach this in the Appetence Birth Workshop.
