Description
These lovely handmade necklaces are made through a process called copper enamel. It is a process of fusing powdered glass with metal at high temperatures. The birds are cut from a pure copper sheet and then tumble-polished. The surface is prepared, and an opaque glass enameling powder is sifted onto the surface. The birds are then placed into a kiln at a temperature of 1,500 degrees Fahrenheit so the glass will melt and fuse to the copper. The piece is pickled and then sanded to remove the fire scale. An antique copper jump ring is added and attached to the necklace made of leather cord with antique copper findings. A portion of the profits will be donated to SherryStrong.org to empower women to know their bodies, recognize the symptoms of ovarian cancer, and learn how integrative and holistic practices may complement conventional medicine.
From Gracie's GracieJaneArt page:
To me these birds are about change
And embracing it
And about trusting in these invisible forces
Like the wind
Or the universe
Or god
To support us
If we can only find the courage
To spread our wings and fly!
