I am grateful that I can be instrumental in helping people transform their lives in ways that bring them and others joy. I am grateful that, through my work, I, too, am being transformed in positive ways. When I think about co-facilitating this retreat, this potential for individual and group positive change is very exciting! I am excited and honored to be able to co-facilitate this retreat with Fletcher Johnson. Fletcher is a person with many gifts, and she dedicates so much of herself to providing others with healing practices that can lead to their holistic self-awareness and improved well-being.
An important focus of my work as a psychologist is about helping others discover and explore their sense of purpose and how to live a purpose-driven life. When I am asked to assist others in their achievement of a purpose-driven life, my spiritual-self intersects seamlessly with my psychological knowledge and skills. Together, they become a strong, unified resource in my healing-centered and trauma-informed clinical work and consultations.
This virtual day retreat, Stepping into Your Authentic Self, is an opportunity for me to teach and demonstrate many approaches to health and well-being that the participants can take away with them and do on their own, hopefully long after the retreat. In the context of this retreat, Fletcher and I can apply some of the elements of our respective expertise with the participants: Fletcher’s expertise in therapeutic yoga, and my expertise based in clinical psychology. Combined, we can share with participants some of the precious keys that can open the way to identifying and accessing their respective and unique authentic self through mind, body, and spirit.
There are many women who are yearning for an awareness of their authentic self and longing to know how to access and nurture it. Many have experienced glimmers of their essential, sacred self. It is an incredible honor for me to witness a woman’s shift from experiencing just “glimmers” to the full realization of her authentic self. To observe this shift is to be amazed at a woman’s own transformation and her transformation of the world around her in positive ways! This retreat, Stepping Into Your Authentic Self, is an opportunity for women to begin or continue this marvelous transformation. I can’t wait to work alongside Fletcher and contribute to this amazing process!

Biography:
S. Ileana Lindstrom, PhD, is a licensed psychologist in the State of Maryland. She began an independent practice 2017.
Dr. Lindstrom offers psychotherapy with adults, individually and in small groups, who are seeking assistance with their recovery from trauma and other kinds of problematic emotional challenges, such as depression, grief, anxiety, stress, and difficult life transitions. When requested by her clients, Dr. Lindstrom provides psycho-spiritual psychotherapy. Psycho- spiritual psychotherapy is a combination of spiritual guidance—including spiritual awareness, a discernment process, and acknowledgment of sacred wisdom—along with current evidence- based and evidence-informed psychotherapy. Additionally, she consults with faith-based institutions, and other agencies and organizations that have experienced negative effects of traumatic events and are seeking trauma-informed recovery at a systemic/organizational level. All sessions are currently conducted using video-conferencing.
Dr. Lindstrom’s training in clinical psychology occurred in a wide range of clinical contexts, including a child guidance clinic for adjudicated youth in Washington, DC; community mental health clinics serving young children, adolescents, and adults from urban, suburban, and rural communities; and a private psychiatric hospital in Washington, DC, at which she provided treatment for adults with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), dissociative identity disorder, and other serious mental illnesses. Her clinical practice is informed by all of these experiences which have equipped her to be acutely aware of and responsive to the close interrelationships among health, mental health, human development, relationships, race, and the culture and history unique to each community.
Dr. Lindstrom is a retired pastor in the DE-MD Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, having served Lutheran and Episcopal congregations in urban and rural regions. She was trained in community organizing and in the promotion of racial equity. She is a member of the Social Action Committee for Racial Justice, Kent County, MD. According to Dr. Lindstrom, “Much of my motivation to contribute to the empowerment and healing of adult individuals and groups was cultivated by people who dedicated their lives to striving for justice and speaking truth to power. I learned from them that healing and empowerment begin with a personal recognition of one’s worthiness of love and belonging, and an acknowledgement of one’s resiliency and personal strengths.” Dr. Lindstrom’s professional memberships include: the American Psychological Association (APA); Division 56—Trauma Psychology—of the APA; the Maryland Psychological Association; and the Chester River Wellness Alliance, Kent County, Maryland.
