YTT 300 - Trauma-Informed Yoga: Beyond Calm To Resilience
With Barb Leese and Dr. Jackie Ang
This training offers an embodied exploration of how trauma impacts all human beings, and the role of sensory awareness and body-based interventions in supporting its resolution. Trauma and its aftereffects will be explored through the lens of yoga and Ayurveda, modern neuroscience, somatic therapy and sensorimotor psychology.
In this module you will:
- Understand how
the experience of daily stress and traumatic events can impact the
nervous system, leading to chronic physical, mental and energetic
patterns
- Discover how to
utilize yoga asana, somatic techniques, breath/pranayama +
meditative techniques to balance symptoms of over-activation
(excess rajas) and freeze/shut-down (excess tamas)
- Deepen your
ability to support yourself in states of excess sympathetic
(hyperarousal) and parasympathetic (hypoarousal) activity in ways
that expand resilience
- Learn how to
utilize trauma-informed language, anchoring and presence-ing to
support and address trauma responses when they arise in self, group
and individual settings.
This is not a certification teaching you how to heal trauma (This is best approached in a holistic, multi-disciplinary, requiring different scopes of practice). Rather, you will come to recognize how the aftereffects of trauma can show up in our everyday responses and the ways that yoga, somatic and one’s own embodied presence can be a resource to a challenged nervous system.
This training is particularly relevant for yoga instructors, healing arts professionals and facilitators, who will meet trauma in both group and individual settings and will cover approaches that can be applied to self-guidance, one-on-one settings and group environments.
