Yoga is an ancient behavioral practice that fosters physical fitness and the development of the mind body skills of self-regulation of internal physiological and psychological states and mind-body awareness/mindfulness. All of these facets are known to contribute to improvements in mental and emotional health and functioning. This presentation will overview the scientific and clinical rationale and evidence for the application of yoga for prevention and treatment in mental health, and the growing body clinical research that is demonstrating its efficacy in a wide variety of mental health conditions including chronic stress, trauma, anxiety disorders and insomnia.
