Pleasant Mountain Music

Kelsey Luo is a passionate modern rock/metalcore musician, music instructor and remote session vocalist, with a unique skill set of extreme vocals (metal screams). Her musical journey started at the age of 5, when she started her classical piano training and completed her ARCT from the RCM in piano performance. As a child, she has competed and won first place at the Kiwanis Musical Festival, and placed in the Top 3 at the Richmond Music Festival. Her dedication to music brought her to the reknown Berklee College of Music, where she picked up momentum as a voice principal, despite being a classical pianist. Her teaching experience began at age 18, when she offered in-home piano lessons on a bike. Since then, she’s had a decade of teaching experience across voice, piano and theory from various ages, skill levels and music genres, as well as songwriting, recording and composition. She helps prepare her students for RCM exams across piano and theory, and performances and competitions where she can see her student’s confidence and growth within themselves through music. She is bilingual in English and Mandarin Chinese, and lessons can be taught in both languages. Kelsey is also the choir director for Vancouver’s “Metal Choir” and soon to be, Metal Ensemble, where adults across SATB voicings come together to perform repertoire across various rock and metal genres. She specializes in teaching extreme vocals (metal screams) across false cord and fry scream techniques, and her work has been featured by CBC Radio and the Georgia Straight. Her contribution to the metal scene in Vancouver has helped grow a community of metalhead’s and bring them together across the city. As a solo artist within modern metal, she has performed at various venues across the west coast and has garnered press and video features across the globe. She is set to release new music and videos this year under NIGHTOWL, with a debut performance from her new event “Metalcore Club Night”, at The Cobalt.
