Dear Lifeguarding Course Participant:

Thank you for enrolling in the American Red Cross Lifeguarding Recertification course.

We are hosting a full lifeguard course May 27-29th. May 27-28th are 9A-5P. We encourage you to attend all 3 days for skills practice and review. On the day of the recertification you will be testing out with everyone from the full lifeguard course. While there will be a short time of practice during the day, the bulk of class will be assessment scenarios. If you are coming all 3 days, then please send us an email prior so we can plan for your attendance.

Please note we will be testing prerequisites right at 8AM on the 29th, so please be dressed and ready to go.

The primary purpose of a recertification course is to give participants who are currently certified American Red Cross Lifeguarding (Including Deep Water) the opportunity to review the course knowledge and skills within a formal course setting to maintain their American Red Cross Lifegaurding (including Deep Water) certification.

Lifeguarding (Including Deep Water) Recertification training is conducted and evaluated in water depths ranging from 0 feet to water 7 feet and greater (ranging from 8-12 feet maximum, depending on the depth of the facility in which the training is conducted).

To participate in the Lifeguarding (Including Deep Water) Recertification course, participants must:

       - Hold a current certification, or expired by no more than 30 days, in American Red Cross Lifeguarding that included training in deep water 7 feet or deeper.

       - Successfully complete the two prerequisite swimming skills evaluations:

In general, you will need the following for this in-person session:

• A swimsuit that allows for good range of motion and that will stay secure and keep you covered during physical activity.
• A towel.
• Comfortable clothing for classroom activities and practicing skills such as CPR.
• Your Lifeguarding Manual (in either print or digital format), hip pack, resuscitation mask and whistle.
• For your comfort, you may want to bring an extra swimsuit and a change of dry clothes, in addition to an extra layer (such as a sweatshirt and sweatpants).

Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive an American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding (Including Deep Water) with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid, valid for 2 years.

Please be aware that the skill practice sessions in the Lifeguarding Recertification course involve strenuous physical activity.
