Kaleb Burnett is a driven, compassionate, and knowledgeable coaching professional. While in his teens, Kaleb became fascinated with the concept of sports performance after growing up watching collegiate and professional sports. He started training at a local gym and running long distances recreationally for about a year during his senior year of high school. From here he became very passionate about strength training and the sport of powerlifting. During his first semester at ETSU he joined the Powerlifting Club and was introduced to periodized strength training. Following his time as a club lifter for ETSU Powerlifting, in January of 2021 Kaleb decided that he wanted to become a strength and conditioning coach. He then completed two strength and conditioning internships while at ETSU. First with the Center of Excellence for Sport Science and Coach Education where he worked with ETSU Olympic Sports in the Summer of 2021. Second with ETSU Football Strength and Conditioning in the Fall of 2021. Following the completion of his internship with ETSU Football Kaleb graduated with his bachelor’s in Kinesiology and earned the Summa Cum Laude award for academic excellence in the Fall of 2021.Kaleb then applied for and was admitted into ETSU’s prestigious Sport Science and Coach Education master’s program for the Fall 2022 term. Here he would learn from sport science and S&C pioneers Dr. Michael Stone and Meg Stone. During his graduate school orientation Kaleb was appointed as a Strength and Conditioning Coach for ETSU Powerlifting. During his first week of graduate school Kaleb completed and passed the NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist exam on his first attempt. Throughout all two years of graduate school Kaleb was a strength coach for 30+ lifters while also managing his class work and working part time. This consisted of five nationally competitive scholarship lifters, intermediate level club lifters, & general population college students. Following his first year of graduate school Kaleb completed an internship with The University of Tennessee Olympic Sports Performance Department in the summer of 2023. He worked with D1 Power 5 athletes all summer and learned from some of the best S&C coaches in the nation. Following the completion of this internship Kaleb has accumulated 800+ hours of internship experience in total.Kaleb finished off his graduate school career by coaching three ETSU powerlifters to the 2024 USAPL Collegiate Nationals. All three lifters set personal records and one lifter placed 3rd in the nation for their weight class in their first ever national competition. Following his success at Collegiate Nationals Kaleb presented his Capstone Project which required over 4 months of non-stop work and was comprised of almost a years’ worth of training data. This project focused on the management of a reoccurring hip injury of a nationally competitive collegiate powerlifter while preparing for a national competition. The lifter included in this project went on to put up his best competition total of his entire career at Collegiate Nationals.
