Upgrade your cleaning schedule
Even if you were hyper-vigilant about cleanliness in the past, there’s a new standard now! Put together a strict cleaning schedule and adjust your studio hours to reflect the time you need to follow the extra precautions. Include the following measures for maximum effect:
- Clean everything regularly: the front desk area, handrails, doorknobs and all other surfaces
- Disinfect equipment throughout the day (preferably after each use)
- Have instructors disinfect bikes, mats and equipment after each class
- Complete a deep clean at end of each day (schedule staff accordingly)
- In warmer weather, open doors and windows for more fresh air and increased ventilation
Stock equipment for sanitizing
Along with the studio and equipment, people will also be concerned about controlling their own hygiene and doing what they can to stay safe while they’re in the studio. Set up stations to make it easy! Your clients will be reassured when they see that they can easily practice heightened hygiene, so include the following items for people to feel comfortable and safe:

- Garbage cans nearby for easy and touchless disposal
Keep your staff on alert to fill stations as supplies get low, so it’s always available when clients need it. Provide the resources your members need to take control of their own hygiene and safety while they’re in your care and as a result you’ll see them visit more often.
Make prevention a priority
Keep your clients informed of the new protocols you have in place! Put up prevention posters around the studio to make sure clients know how to be safe around others. Use as many resources as you can to clearly communicate the potential risks and the procedures clients need to follow. Show your clients that you’ve done the research and be clear with your messaging. As long as everyone follows the rules, your studio will stay a safe place to visit.
Post the rules throughout the studio and on your website to increase awareness and ensure the safety and health of your clients. The more attention you bring to your new cleaning protocol, the better your business will fare in getting your clients to come back.
Take as many precautions as you can! Here are some additional prevention tips to promote in your studio:
- Handwashing with soap and water is required for at least 20 seconds
- Avoid touching your face whenever possible
- Clients should not workout if feeling unwell
- Staff should not come to work if feeling unwell
- Avoid close contact with anyone who has been sick
- Do not allow groups to congregate in small areas before or after class
- Limit interaction by having clients wait outside or in their cars before class and wait for the previous class to exit to before anyone new enters the studio

If you had high expectations of cleanliness before, the bar has been set even higher! Adopt strict cleaning practices and review them with your staff to stay consistent and vigilant. Don’t cut corners either! Be clear in outlining their responsibilities so they know what they need to practice, look for and enforce.
