In 2009, Evans Armantrading started CNU Fit in his living room. He designed personalized exercise programs, coached clients on their unique nutritional needs, and provided them with a better knowledge of their personal health. “I started as a person who lost some weight and got excited about metabolism, and that fueled the concept and the idea of how to educate people on a one-on-one basis to reach their fitness goals.”
The hands-on method was popular. “The business grew every single year. Most years it doubled,” Evans happily reported.
After years of growth, Evans and his team at CNU Fit were recognized by his local community, “We were nominated small business of the year in 2016, 2017, and 2018 in our local chamber.” And in addition to that, CNU Fit won NPE‘s North American Fitness Business of the year in 2017 under Evans’s guidance.
In their decade of business, CNU Fit has made a major impact on their community, “We’ve helped over 2300 people lose over 33,000 pounds.” Evans plans to continue growing his business while shrinking his clientele’s waistlines. The future is definitely bright.
The Problem
Like a lot of new fitness business owners, Evans tried a handful of software solutions before finding the perfect one. He started with Zen Planner, who he worked with for about six months. Then, he tried MindBody. The industry giant seemed like the right solution for Evans at the time, and with no other options in sight, Evans stuck with them for years.
MindBody provided a workable solution for Evans and his team at CNU Fit, but there were some glaring issues that he just couldn’t ignore. “One was cost. MindBody was probably double the price of WellnessLiving,” Evans told us.
Along with the significant cost, MindBody just couldn’t provide the client and business management tools that Evans needed to run his business effectively. Billing was complicated, membership numbers were muddled, and overall the experience definitely did not justify MindBody’s hefty price tag.
The Solution

Since introducing his clients to his new software solution, Evans was able to harness many features to make his billing process quicker and easier. “I like how the billing structure is easy to set up for auto-pays and adjustments…It’s a very smooth, easy system to use. If you’re clean on the front-end, it saves you a lot of time…It gives us a more accurate view of what our business looks like on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.”
With CNU Fit’s financial health and general efficiency better than ever, Evans sees a bright future ahead with WellnessLiving. “We’re going to use the rewards system as part of a challenge we’re going to do in a couple weeks and I’m excited about that.”
