10 Tips to Create Massive Growth in Your Business
By Maura Vella, guest blogger and business advisor at Cultivate Advisors and co-owner of 105F Hot Yoga & Pilates
Running a small business for 15 years, I’ve seen it all. Ups, downs, and even a pandemic thrown into the mix. Despite being knocked down, I always get up again.
Over the course of one year, I was able to earn a 1,000% profit increase to create a seven-figure business. It’s experiences like this one that empower me to help others succeed. Here are 10 things I learned over the course of my most successful year of massive growth in my business.
1. Don’t be afraid to take a step back
In the past, I felt way too busy, like I was just trying to keep my head above water. I was living in the sink-or-swim mentality. I needed to find work-life balance. When I did, not only did I find joy in my life, but my business grew as well. At the end of the day, finding the courage to take a step back was what I truly needed for my business to take that next step.
2. Learn how to understand your finances
Amazing things happen when you make your finances a priority. I always review and reflect on the financials and key metrics in my business. This allows me to identify growth opportunities and trends to help plan and forecast for the future. Yes, sales are important, but I needed to consider other factors like class attendance and lifetime client value if I wanted to see the entire picture of my business.
3. Lead generation is only the first step
Attracting leads and generating interest in your business is an important part of your marketing strategy, but it shouldn’t be your only avenue of awareness. Nurturing your leads through social media and other communication methods will help you convert them into paying clients.
4. Sales isn’t sleazy, it’s education
Why does sales get a bad rep? The sales process is our opportunity as small business owners to educate leads and potential clients about our business and answer their questions. When I shifted from a salesy mentality to an educational mindset, my clientele really benefited and truly understood how we could help them reach their health goals.
5. Create an authentic client journey
I learned that it’s not just about the sale, it’s what comes after. It’s about relationship-building, becoming part of a community, and achieving a goal together. But this doesn’t happen overnight. To get there, you need to develop authentic messaging that’s on brand and weaves into the fabric of your business’s culture.
6. Developing systems is the easiest way to scale up
Creating systems has allowed me to determine what actions work, what needs work, and what can be replicated and executed each day. As a result, I can train my staff members to perform tasks within the system that have already proven to be successful. This way, everything gets done a lot quicker than if I attempted the task myself. As a result, I see the growth in my business I’m looking for.
7. Empowering my team was needed to support the company’s vision
You can’t grow your business alone. That’s why I empower my team by communicating their value to my business. As a result, they become open to expressing their concerns and sharing insights that have a greater impact on the company and our clients.
8. Aligning myself with an experienced business advisor was one of my most important investments
Having a business advisor by my side was by far the most important investment I’ve made for the growth of my business. It allows me to learn a different perspective, while establishing my goals, growing my skills, and achieving my vision quicker.
9. Delegate tasks to my team
I used to believe that doing everything myself was somehow powerful and admirable. In truth, when I gave myself permission to delegate tasks to others, everything changed for the better. Not only had I reduced stress and burnout, but I expanded my potential and achieved more as a result. I also found greater satisfaction when everything didn’t depend on me, and it still got done!
10. Cultivating profits can lead to more freedom and time for myself
When I did all the work and built a strong foundation, not only did I make more money, but I had more freedom and time for myself. With so much time, I decided to share my extra time with other business owners who also crave growth and change. That’s why I became a small business advisor at Cultivate Advisors. Now through data, not guesswork, I’m able to create financial freedom for others.
